10/10/22 - This is a very nice example of a Scottish Guard Feather Bonnet. The bonnet has the usual red, white, and navy blue checkered pattern around the bottom. The decorative plumage is correctly arranged with a "tail" on the side made up of a few separate sections. The right side of the cap features a red plume above a fabric flower design. Typically a small badge is pin to the cap in this location to identify the regiment it was used in, unfortunately this example is missing a badge. The red plume and longer length of the feathers indicate this helmet is for the pipe Major. The interior is in good condition with the metal frame maintaining its structure. The leather strap that anchors the cloth liner is intact but has a section of some damage and stitching issues throughout. The cloth liner itself is in good condition with no major blemishes. The interior also features a maker stamp reading "Hobson & Sons". Overall, an interesting display piece in nice condition! Note: the plumage of this cap is prone to and currently does shed. Please take this into consideration when planning to purchase and/or display.
