11/14/24 - This is a great example of a scarce Springfield Model 1903, manufactured in 1905. This rifle is equipped with a .22 caliber barrel. This rifle is chambered for the Hoffer-Thompson .22 chamber insert, this insert is included with the rifle, see photos. These rifles were made for training purposes and were used heavily during this training. As a result of this heavy use this example has a bore rating of 3/10. The rifle does still have rifling present, however, there is frosting and pinpricking throughout. The receiver and bolt of this rifle still maintain most of their original finish, with finish loss only in those areas associated with standard use. The barrel on this rifle is marked " SA 3-08" with the flaming bomb stamp. The nose cap, barrel band, butt plate, sling swivel, trigger guard and magazine plate have finish loss and surface oxidation throughout. The wood stock is in overall very good condition, but does have pressure marks, scratches and dents throughout. The left side of the grip on the stock is marked with the letter "K". Under the grip there is a semi-visible number, and the nose of the stock is "S" marked. The top of handguard on this rifle is in excellent condition with only minor dents.
