3/1/21 - This is a very desirable and rare commercial variation of the German K98, made in 1944. It is "CE" marked on the receiver, which means it was manufactured by JP Sauer & Sohn. The receiver is also marked "44", but the marking is faint. It is also marked with the early style "CE" on the right side of the receiver and "Mod 98" on the left side. It has a very early serial number. The gun is completely matching (including the hand guard and the inside groove of the stock) and has no import marks. The cleaning rod is in tact. Overall this gun is in very nice condition. It has retained almost all of its original high-polish bluing, but there are areas of light freckling here and there, especially on the top of the receiver. The stock is unmarked and in excellent condition. There is a very faint crude "X" marking on the receiver (see photo). This could be a "Russian X", but there are no obvious signs of this gun being "Russian dipped" and it is not import marked. Therefore, we do not believe it is a "Russian X". The bore is minty. There is a small crack on the top of the stock (see photo).
