6/20/13 - This is an altered 1906 Navy Luger from the Doug Smith collection. The finish is original at about 98-99% with strong front straps and nice straw parts. It is all matching including the grips. The bore is excellent and shiny with strong lands and grooves. Comes with proper navy magazine that is numbered but not to the gun. These Navy Lugers have always been highly sought after by collectors because of their uniqueness and limited production numbers. These altered models were ones that were subsequently reworked by having their safety areas altered so that the Safety markings were located in the upper position of the rear frame area, so that they would have the same markings and function that was eventually adopted for all standard Military Lugers. This alteration was performed by both DWM and the Navy Dockyards in a very professional manner. The usually procedures was that the original, lower safety markings and frame areas were polished out with the word "GESICHERT" remarked in the upper position.
